Services

This is partial list of services available.  Examples of some of the work may be found in the Gallery section.

Fine Bindings

Sometimes called Design Bindings, these are essentially books as art -- Fine leather bindings with hand tooled designs and leather onlays.  These are usually fine, letterpress printed books. Only the finest materials available are used and there is attention to details that perhaps only another binder would notice!

Portfolios

Custom portfolios for photographers, designers and other artists. From simple three or four flap folios to albums to clamshell box portfolios-- all are designed to match your personal style and sized to fit the artwork you need to present. The first impression is made before they even see your artwork...

Custom Journals, Albums, and Guest Books

Journals from simple, sewn books (that will open flat for writing) to leather bound books of hand made paper, all are as unique as the individuals who write in them.  Wedding Albums, Travel Albums, Baby Albums, Retirement Albums. Guest books and Visitor’s books.

Clamshell Boxes and other Protective Enclosures

From simple wrappers to slip cases to lipped clamshell boxes, each one custom crafted for a perfect fit.  Clamshell boxes in a variety of styles-- linen covered conservation boxes to leather boxes with rounded spines tooled like a book.  Protect and preserve your rare books, first editions, or even that favorite children’s book that is beyond repair but too sentimentally valuable to give up.

Presentation/Gift Books & Boxes

Honor the academic achievements of your children by having a favorite book bound for them.   Have a special box made to present an engagement ring.  Specialty projects are welcomed.  If it can be made with traditional bookbinding materials-- binders board, leather, cloth and paper-- I will make it.

Finishing: Hand Tooling & Gilding, Machine Stamping

Bookbinding is traditionally divided into two distinct aspects; Forwarding and Finishing. Forwarding is all the structure (from the sewing to the covering in leather).  Finishing is the titling and decoration (gilding and onlay, blocking or stamping). Finishers get all the glory-- most people judge the book by the cover.  Finishing is also the exciting part-- it is the last step of the whole binding process, the last chance to mess up all that hard work!  A full range of finishing services are available.
